Host F.A.Q.
What are the responsibilities of Porchfest hosts on the day of the event?
Hosts are generous volunteers who provide a space for live music and help create a welcoming environment for attendees.
Many hosts also choose to invite performers or build their own lineup, while others host performers they are matched with. On the day of the event, hosts help ensure guests can watch safely and may establish guidelines for their property (e.g., chairs, dogs, alcohol).
Can a performer arrange to be with a specific host?
Yes! In fact, many Porchfest performances are arranged this way. If a performer and a host have a mutual agreement, they can confirm that connection during registration.
The Wakefield Porchfest registration process also provides ways for hosts and performers to connect directly, making it easy to build your own lineup or find a great match.
How do I find performers to play at my location?
Many hosts choose to invite performers themselves. It’s a great way to shape the vibe of your location and bring in music you love. If you’re not sure where to start, we’ve put together some Performer Recruitment Tips for Hosts with simple ideas and approaches that work well.
If you prefer, you can also offer your space and the Porchfest Committee will do its best to match performers to your location. While we can’t guarantee placement, we’ll work to make it a great experience for everyone.
Do I need to provide seating for attendees?
No, hosts are not expected to provide seating. We encourage attendees to bring their own folding chairs or blankets. If you’d like to set out extra chairs, that’s a lovely touch — but entirely optional.
Do I need to provide a bathroom?
No. Hosts are not required to open their bathrooms to attendees. We recommend guests plan ahead and visit nearby establishments for restrooms.
How long are typical performances?
Most performance slots are about 60 minutes, but this can vary depending on the host’s schedule and lineup.
Some hosts feature a single performer for a longer set, while others organize multiple shorter performances throughout the day. Your availability and comfort level help shape the schedule.
Could I be asked to host more than one group of performers?
Yes, it’s possible! We ask that hosts commit to a minimum of 2 hours, but you’re welcome to host for up to the full event duration of 6 hours if you’d like.
If you’re building your own lineup, this could mean inviting multiple performers throughout the day. If you’re open to being matched with performers, we may schedule more than one group based on your availability and preferences.
Performer F.A.Q.
Can I sign up my band or solo performance?
Registration for Wakefield Porchfest 2026 will open in early June, and we will send out an announcement. You will have until August 15th, 2026 to register.
What equipment should I bring with me?
Performers are responsible for bringing their own gear, including instruments, mics, amps, extension cords, and any other equipment needed for your set. Electricity should be available — check with your host in advance. We recommend keeping your setup simple and portable.
When will I find out where and when I’m performing?
If you’ve already connected with a host, you’ll be able to coordinate details with them directly, and your performance will be confirmed as part of the scheduling process.
For performers still looking for a host, placements may happen as the event approaches, depending on availability. Final schedule details are typically shared two to three weeks prior to the event.
What should I know about setup and transitions between performers?
We, the Porchfest Committee, truly appreciate any efforts you make to keep setup and breakdown quick and smooth. Arriving a little early and being mindful of the next performer’s time slot helps the whole event stay on track.
We also encourage the sharing of equipment when possible — for example, amps or mics — as it can speed up transitions and reduce setup time. Of course, we understand that not everyone is comfortable sharing or using someone else’s gear, and that’s completely okay. If sharing is a possibility, we appreciate the teamwork!
Can I promote my performance?
Yes — please do! Once you receive your final time slot and porch location, shout it from the rooftops (or at least your social media). Invite your friends, fans, and neighbors. The more buzz we create, the better the day will be for everyone!
Can I sell merchandise or accept tips?
As long as your host is okay with it, you’re welcome to sell merchandise or accept tips during your performance. Every host has the right to set their own guidelines for their space, so be sure to check in with them before the event.
